An Update on Our Journey: The BASE Otero Has Received IRS Approval
To Our Incredible BASE Otero Community,
We are excited and deeply grateful to share an important update with you. The BASE Otero Community Youth Center has officially received approval from the Internal Revenue Service recognizing our organization as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as 04/29/26. This is a major milestone in our journey and a meaningful step forward for our organization, our supporters, and the youth and families we serve throughout Otero County.
When we transitioned from the Boys & Girls Club of Otero County to become The BASE Otero Community Youth Center, we committed ourselves to building a dedicated, local foundation where our youth can belong, achieve, support, and empower one another. Throughout this process, your continued support, patience, encouragement, and belief in our mission have meant more than words can express. This approval allows us to continue moving forward with greater stability, transparency, and confidence as we work to expand our programs and deepen our impact in the community.
We also want to thank our donors, families, volunteers, board members, staff, and community partners for standing with us during this time of growth and transition. Your generosity has helped carry The BASE Otero through an important chapter, and we are honored to continue this work with the official recognition and support needed to grow our mission. As a 501(c)(3) organization, eligible contributions made to The BASE Otero may be tax-deductible in accordance with IRS guidelines, and we encourage donors to consult with a tax professional regarding their individual circumstances.
The future of The BASE Otero Community Youth Center is bright, and this approval marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive space where youth can learn, grow, lead, and reach their full potential. To Our Incredible BASE Otero Community,
When we transitioned from the Boys & Girls Club of Otero County to become The BASE Otero Community Youth Center, we committed to a shared vision: building a dedicated, local foundation where our youth can belong, achieve, support, and empower one another. Every step of this journey has been fueled by your generosity, and we are deeply grateful for your continued belief in our mission.
As part of our commitment to absolute transparency with the community that lifts us up, we want to provide an important update regarding our organizational status.
We are currently in the formal process of seeking our independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization tax status. Because we are in this transitional phase and are not yet officially classified as a 501(c)(3) organization, we want to gently advise anyone who declared donations to The BASE Otero on their 2025 taxes to consult with a tax professional regarding those contributions.
We sincerely apologize for any confusion, inconvenience, or questions this may cause. Please rest assured that our team is working diligently on this process, and we fully expect this matter to be completely rectified sometime this year.
While navigating the administrative steps of a new launch takes time, the heart of our work has never missed a beat—and the future of The BASE Otero has never looked brighter. We are absolutely thrilled to share that Angel Chapman-McDavid, JD, officially stepped into the role of CEO on May 15, 2026. Angel brings an incredible wealth of passion, leadership, and nonprofit expertise to our organization. Under her guidance, we are entering an exciting new chapter dedicated to expanding our reach and deepening our impact on Otero County’s youth.
